Lisbon Coast
Few world capitals are as beautiful or as easy to visit as Lisbon. Portugal’s capital is a great place for discovering historical monuments, interesting shops, unique restaurants, romantic gardens and exhilarating nightlife because it has such a wealth of entertainment packed into a relatively small surface area. Lisbon is also the best starting point for visits to the rest of the region, due to its choice of motorways branching off into various directions.
The city itself offers numerous options. The charming old quarters of Alfama, Castelo and Mouraria are culturally affluent and especially lively in June when they host festivities in honor of popular saints. Perhaps the most famous landmark in the old part of town is the St. George's Castle that proudly stands atop one of Lisbon’s 7 hills that overlook the city. However, if you are a fan of architecture there are many more "must see" monuments throughout the city, including the Jeronimos Monastery, Belem Tower and the Monument to the Discoveries, all within walking distance from each other. The rich architecture, typical tile building façades, narrow cobblestone streets and interesting museums together with the lingering sound of the traditional Fado music being sung at the local taverns make Lisbon a very unique and charming city, perfect for a fabulous Destination Wedding
Besides Lisbon, this region offers many other beautiful towns within a few minutes from each other. To the west you have Cascais and Estoril, two cosmopolitan ocean side resort towns with excellent golf, beaches and a world-renown casino.
Slightly north of Lisbon is the incredibly beautiful borough of Sintra perched on verdant hills overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Its famous Pena Palace is like something out of a fairytale book! In fact, its spectacular landscape and romantic aurora made it a highly desirable location for ancient nobility and Portugal’s wealthy class, who built extraordinary castles and antique palaces throughout the city. These palaces are true works of art with exquisite detail not found in today’s architecture.
A little farther north lie the cities of Mafra, with its impressive Convent, Ericeira, a lovely old fishing village which, over the years, has gained popularity with surfers and Torres Vedras famous for its forts that were used to fend off Napoleon's troops during the Peninsular War.
To the south is Setúbal, whose bay is a member of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World. Setúbal boasts endless white sandy beaches and its Arrábida Natural Park, which covers more than 10,000 acres and is Portugal’s largest nature preserve. Slightly farther south you have the lovely fishing town of Sesimbra, which has a medieval castle and Azeitão with its typical aristocratic farmhouses.
The Lisbon Coast is a truly exceptional and romantic region that has everything you need for your unforgettable wedding reception. So what are you waiting for?
