Destination Weddings in Argentina

A bride in Argentina will wear a beautiful white wedding dress for her special day, often with a blue petticoat underneath for the customary 'something blue'. At a traditional Argentine wedding, there are no bridesmaids or best man! The couple's parents play a very important role in the ceremony, and stand with them at the altar.

The tango is the national dance of Argentina, and is popularly danced at wedding receptions, which are full of the vibrancy for which the country is famous. The celebrations will continue for hours, as a marriage is always a very happy event in which friends and family enjoy sharing. When it comes to the cuisine, most Argentine dishes are meat-based, usually beef. For dessert, look no further than the delicious helado, ice cream which is a national delicacy.

Argentina has clearly been influenced by Europe and the interaction of cultures which has taken place here has left the country with some world-class institutions. For example, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, where ballet, opera and classical music performances regularly take place. The city is also home to some excellent museums and sophisticated shops.

History lovers should head straight to the city of Cordoba which is home to a fine collection of colonial buildings and an important historical museum.

Argentina also has many superb natural sights such as the spectacular Iguazú Falls, whose water plunges down 230 feet. They are located in the huge Iguazú Natural Park where you will discover Jesuit ruins and a subtropical rainforest.

The Pampas area is the agricultural heartland of Argentina, with grasslands, salt lakes and forested hills. Typical Argentine cities La Plata, Luján, Rosario and Santa Fe in this area all have museums, churches and colonial buildings.

If you want sea and sun, head to the Mar del Plata, five miles of beaches along the north Atlantic coast. You are likely to spot sea lions in the water!
