Destination Weddings in St. Croix

St. Croix is the largest of the US Virgin Islands and is a beautiful place to exchange your wedding vows. The backdrop to your wedding in St. Croix could hardly be more picturesque. Verdant forests cover swathes of this Caribbean island, which is fringed by white sand beaches and surrounded by deep blue seas.

The island is ringed by stunning coral reefs, which you can marvel at close up through snorkeling and scuba diving. Boating and fishing are also popular off the coast of this tropical island, whose surrounding waters are unbelievably clear.

As for St. Croix's beaches, they are reputed to be some of the best in the world. The beaches range from secluded expanses of sand to better known bays, edged with restaurants and bars serving up delicious Caribbean fare.

St. Croix is also one of the most historic and cultured islands in the Caribbean. Once owned by Denmark, the island still displays many features of its colonial past. At one point there were some one hundred sugar plantations here.

The coastal town of Christiansted is the capital of St. Croix, and was once capital of all Denmark's Caribbean colonies. Many Danish colonial buildings remain in this pretty and atmospheric town which features many pastel-painted houses in typical Caribbean style. Some of the oldest buildings are built from distinctive Danish bricks which were transported across the Atlantic Ocean many centuries before. The town's major landmark is 18th century Fort Christiansted, which offers excellent views of the harbor.

Another very pretty town in Frederiksted in the southwest of the island. The town's most popular attraction is the Cruzan Rum Distillery, which offers tours and free tasting. Nearby is Sandy Point, home to one of only two leatherback turtle nesting grounds in the Caribbean.

St. Croix is a picture-perfect Caribbean island, a relaxed, peaceful destination which is a wonderfully romantic place to get married.
