Destination Weddings in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rican weddings are strongly influenced by the distinctive culture of this Caribbean island. The bride will wear a white or ivory colored wedding dress, and will carry a bouquet of brightly colored tropical flowers.

At the wedding reception the guests are presented with favors. Traditional Puerto Rican favors are capias - feathers tied with ribbon and printed with your names and the date of your wedding. Candy covered almonds are also popular. The reception will then proceed with food, music and dancing!

Puerto Rico blends Spanish, African and Taino traditions with an American influence, which is particularly felt in the cities. Head into the mountainous interior of the country however, and you will discover hill towns which appear to have been unchanged for centuries. The Luquillo mountain range is stunning, and its highest peak, El Yunque, reaches a towering 3,500 feet. It is surrounded by a rainforest which covers an amazing 11,200 hectares. Many well defined hiking trails will lead you through this tropical paradise.

The Rio Camuy Cave Park, in the north west, is another natural wonder. There are over 200 caves and some immense underground rivers here, which can be discovered with the aid of guides.

The Puerto Rican capital, San Juan, dates from the 1500's yet has a very modern feel, particularly along the sea front with its perfect white sand beaches. The city center retains a great number of historic buildings.

Ponce, Puerto Rico's second city, lies just inland from the southern coast. The 17th century center has been superbly preserved, and there is a host of fascinating museums to visit, alongside a beautiful cathedral. Just 15 miles north you will find the Tibes Indian Ceremonial Center. This 32 acre Amerindian archaeological site, discovered in 1975, is in the process of being excavated.

Puerto Rico is a wonderful island on which to marry, with romantic beaches, superb scenery and a unique culture.
