Destination Weddings in India

India is the land of a thousand faces, a country simply overflowing with cultural richness. A blend of many languages, religions, traditions and cultures, India is one of the most diverse countries on earth. In a land so varied, the possibilities for a marriage are endless, and customs vary according to religion, region and community.

Whatever your preferences, a wedding in India is bound to be unforgettable - every marriage is the sign for an important family celebration.

A key ritual is the Mehndi party which the bride holds the night before the wedding. She invites her closest friends and relatives, and their hands and feet are decorated with the henna designs known as Mehndi. The most intricate patterns are of course reserved for the bride, and they may also be painted on her back and arms.

On the wedding morning, the bride and groom may be (separately) anointed with aromatic pastes and oils, then bathed to the chanting of Vedic mantras. The groom will arrive for the ceremony accompanied by his friends and family, and they will be welcomed by the bride's entourage.

The ceremony is conducted by a priest under a flower decorated canopy. Garlands of flowers are exchanged, and promises are recited. When you are declared man and wife, your guests will shower you with flowers. The festivities then begin in earnest, with music, dancing and wonderful Indian food.

A wedding in India offers you the possibility to discover this majestic country. The Taj Mahal was built for love, and is undeniably one of the most beautiful buildings on earth. The deserts of Rajhastan are punctuated with timeless cities, the most romantic of which is Udaipur, built around a lake, the 'Venice of the East'. Add to this snowy mountains, white beaches, ancient ruins and tropical backwaters… it is no surprise that India has been seducing visitors for centuries.
