The varied landscape features pretty flowered bushes, palm trees and some incredible caves, filled with stalactites and stalagmites. The most impressive cave is Caverne Patate in the southwest. There are also many historic sites on the island.
The Rodriguan people are of mixed ethnicity and lead a quiet and harmonious way of life. They use the natural materials of the island to create many distinctive handicrafts, which you can purchase during your stay. These include basketwork, jewelry and carvings. A visit to the National Handicraft Centre will showcase what is on offer.
Over a dozen tiny islands surround Rodrigues. Some of these, such as the Ile Cacos are dedicated nature reserves and can be visited with a permit, others can be freely explored. They are all overwhelmingly beautiful and perfectly complement Rodrigues itself.
