Destination Weddings in Madagascar

Celebrate your wedding in Madagascar, a verdant island in the Indian Ocean which is fringed with sandy beaches and coral reefs. At a traditional Malagasy wedding, the groom will be escorted by his mother, while his bride will arrive on her father's arm, also accompanied by several flower girls. Wedding receptions in Madagascar are usually held in a hotel, with much food, wine and dancing into the early hours.

Madagascar's interior is rich in ecological beauty, with many national parks, forests, volcanoes and an incredible array of vegetation. Head to the coast to laze on the lovely beaches, swim in the clear waters and enjoy diving, snorkeling and whale watching. You can also dine on some excellent seafood. Historically, 18 tribal groups make up Madagascar's population, although most Malagasy are now of mixed race. Music in particular is an important element of the national culture.

Madagascar's bustling capital, Tana, is home to many lively markets, several churches and some charming former royal buildings. It is an interesting city to discover and also features a huge botanical park and zoo, with an excellent museum contained within its grounds.

Tsingy de Bemarha, in the west of the country, is a spectacular natural reserve that has been declared a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. The breathtaking landscapes include two wildlife parks, a massive forest of limestone pinnacles, the Manambolo River and the incredible Manambolo Gorge, which features several waterfalls and forests.

In northern Madagascar you will find the Montagne d'Ambre national park, which extends across almost 45,000 acres of a volcanic massif. Its rain forests, waterfalls and crater lakes provide a home for very diverse wildlife, and its well-defined paths mean that it is ideal for walks.

Madagascar also has several resort islands, the best known of which is Nosy Be. Luxurious resorts are set against a dramatic mountainous backdrop, and superb views are on offer from the top of these peaks.

Get married in Madagascar and you will experience this vibrant African nation in a whole new way. Your Malagasy wedding will be a day never to forget.
