Destination Weddings in Egypt

The ancient Egyptians were the first civilization to regard marriage as a legal relationship, and weddings are consequently very important in Egyptian society. Many ancient traditions survive to this day, and a marriage is always a time for great celebration.

A wedding in Egypt, land of the pyramids, the Sphinx, deserts, the Nile river and the ancient cities of Cairo and Luxor, is sure to be unforgettable.

Most weddings are held in hotels, and the best in Cairo are truly world class. As the marital couple, you will arrive at the wedding hall in a car which is decorated with ribbons and flowers. Traditionally, you are met by a Zaffa - a group of belly dancers and drummers who surround you and sing songs celebrating the wedding.

Once arrived in the wedding hall, you will sit on two throne-like chairs before your guests. The marriage rituals are performed - the most important being the exchange of rings from the right index fingers to the left index fingers. Your first dance is followed by traditional Egyptian entertainment, which may well include musicians and dancers - it is for you to choose.

You will then cut the tiered wedding cake and the bride will toss her bouquet - here, as in countries all around the world, she who catches it is believed to be the next to marry. Next, you will declare open the buffet, which is loaded with delicacies, and the atmosphere becomes even more festive. You will spend your wedding night at the hotel, at the heart of this magnificent and unique land which is Egypt.
